From a thorough study of the indicatrixes of anisotropic minerals, the author derives the equation of the basic error of principal refractive index measurements of anisotropic minerals, interprets completely the resolution of the equation, and puts forward a method to check and correct the measurements. This method can be used to identify the dependability of the measurements, study the subtle changes of them, and resolve the contradiction existing for a long time between the measured optic angle of a biaxial crystal and the optic angle calculated according to the principal refractive index measurements.
