明永乐十一年(1413年),贵州境内已有长官司75个,明洪武年间建立的西堡司是其中之一。对西堡的建置时间却出现了两说,地域叙述过于简单或不符原貌,族属称谓也极不一致,致使近代和现代一些史学工作者在修志或研究贵州有关历史的过程中,不区分正长官和副长官治所的地理位置、地域范围、隶属关系变化和随之带来的民族分布定点不同等情况,凡涉及到西堡司的史料,全放到郎岱县(今六枝特区)名下来叙述,这必然要出现失误。为使上述问题不再错讹下去,现考证如下:
