Writing is obviously not the best pastime. We can not deny that fishing, dancing, chess, travel, and bollball can be entertaining, and more conducive to good health than writing. In fact, except for a handful of geniuses, writers are often lonely on their days, and even coerce their own anxiety and exert more distress than joy. If writing is considered a profession, there is no reason not to be unscrupulous. All walks of life can lead to success, especially in today’s consumer-goods society, where workplaces with higher rates of return than writing are under way and more opportunities and shortcuts are shining brightly in the vast market. A person can do many things, a world also needs people to do many things other than literature. With my mediocre qualifications, I’ve been a math mathematician, a production captain, and a magazine editor. All these are enough to support my confidence in changing careers.
