In 1868, the British government installed two gas signs on the road in front of the Houses of Parliament in London. Red indicates no traffic and green means it can be passed, greatly reducing carriage accidents. This is the earliest traffic light. The meaning represented by red and green stems from social customs. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the York City, red and green costumes in central England represented the different identities of women respectively.
