对图书馆界有学者提出在当今(知识经济时代)图书馆的理念应从传统的“读者第一”转变到“图书馆员第一”的观点提出质疑,以同样称自己的服务对象为“上帝”(第一)的交通运输和商业为例进行分析,认为无论是以“图书馆员第一”取代“读者第一”还是二个“第一”并存或是“有主次和侧重之分的二个第一”等“新”理念都是不可取的,否则将会混淆视听,造成理论上的混乱,给图书馆事业带来不良的后果,认为“读者第一”(读者是上帝)永远是我们图书馆赖于生存的信条。
