由起重器和烟囱构成的工业图景固然被视为社会进步的表征,但在1920至1930年代的左翼文化里,它也常常意味着资本家对工人的残酷剥削。而在抗日战争爆发后,工业尤其是重工业成为国防建设的坚强后盾,工业图景的负面含义消退,转成为社会进步、民族团结乃至国家强大的标志。廖冰兄1938年漫画《筑起我们钢铁的长城!》用视觉的方式,见证了这一阶级矛盾让位于民族矛盾的历史变迁。
While the industrial picture formed by jacks and chimneys was considered a sign of social progress, in the left-wing culture of the 1920s and 1930s it also often meant the brutal exploitation of workers by capitalists. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the industry, especially heavy industry, became the strong backing of the national defense construction. The negative meaning of the industrial picture subsided and turned into a symbol of social progress, national unity and even the strength of the country. Liao Bingxiong 1938 comic “build our steel Great Wall!” Visual way, witnessed this class contradictions give way to historical changes in ethnic conflicts.
