In order to investigate the induction of plant-derived compound eugenol on tobacco against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), the effects of eugenol on chlorophyll content and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, defensive enzyme phenylalanine (PAL), peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), as well as the expression of PR-1, PR-3 and PR-5. The results showed that the eugenol treatment promoted the synthesis of chlorophyll, reduced the accumulation of MDA, increased the activities of PAL, POD and SOD, and enhanced the expression of PR-1, PR-3 and PR-5 genes. The results showed that eugenol can enhance plant induced disease resistance and thus reduce the harm of TMV to tobacco.
