Objective To explore the relationship between the hidden tendency of retreat of undergraduates and personality traits and core self-evaluations of undergraduates, and to provide theoretical and empirical support for further research. Methods Totally 408 college students in two colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province were stratified randomly, and the Recessive Skipping Teaching Propensity Scale, the Eysenck Personality Scale and the Core Self-Assessment Scale were used to investigate. Results There were significant differences in the total score of recessive skip lessons and scores of each dimension among different core self-evaluation groups (P <0.01). There was a significant negative correlation between the core self-assessment and the hidden scores of hidden class and the various dimensions (P <0.01). The N scale (neuroticism) of personality scale was significantly and positively correlated with the total score of recessive skipping tendency and each dimension (P <0.01), and played a complete mediating role for college students’ core self-evaluation and hidden skipping tendency. Conclusion Core self-assessment has an impact on college students’ tendency of recessive skipping, and plays a role in the N scale (neuroticism) of personality scale.
