在山上夯筑或铲削成的1424个椭圆或圆形土台,分别与天空332个星宿或星官一一对应,又分别与秦帝国疆域山川,郡县城障,宫庭苑囿,文武百官、军队、监狱、社会百业,日常生活一一对应,同时还与各种神话幻想等精神世界一一对应,构成了完整的“地上天国”。这些用来观星、祭星、占星的星台群的过去与现状,在榆林市榆阳区古道研究室、榆阳区文体事业局编撰的,由中国科学技术出版社新近出版的《秦帝国全天星台遗址及其源流考》一书中,进行了详细考证与描述。
