建立井源保护区是最有效的地下水保护方法之一．西德、荷兰和英国等不少国家广泛开展了圈定井源保护区的工作．美国在２０世纪８０年代开展了这项工作．１９８６年通过了对１９７４年的清洁水法修正案以后，这项工作得到了迅速的发展．美国开展了全国性的井源保护计划（WHP）．
Establishing well protection zones is one of the most effective groundwater conservation methods. Many countries such as West Germany, the Netherlands and Britain carried out extensive delineation of well protection areas. The United States carried out this work in the 1980s. This work has been rapidly developed since the adoption of the Clean Water Act Amendment of 1974 in 1986. The United States launched a national well protection plan (WHP).
