星叶石是在碱性岩中分布最广的矿物之一,晶体结构未曾测定,其组成和性质因而不十分清楚。星叶石的化学成分一般写成: (K,Na)_2(Fe,Mn)_4Ti[Si_2O_7]_2(OH,F)_2,而实际的化学金分析与上式并不完全符合。星叶石所属的晶系亦未肯定,A.N.文契尔和H.文契尔认为是假斜方,可能是三斜或单斜(?)。H.史特伦茨认为是三斜—假单斜。W.T.帕科拉认为属单斜或三斜(?)。 B.哥斯勒尔和E.莱茵德尔的X射线分析得出下列晶胞参数:
Asterite is one of the most widely distributed minerals in alkaline rocks. Its crystal structure has not been determined and its composition and properties are not well understood.
