爱国统一战线是不是有中国特色的社会主义的一个内容,理论界的看法并不—致.笔者认为,如果从经济、政治和思想文化三个方面来概括有中国特色的社会主义的基本内容,那么,爱国统一战线就是在政治上建设有中国特色的社会主义的一个重要内容,而且是一个不(?)代替的重要内容.第一,受国统一战线是我们建设高度的社会主义民主的重要形式.在统一战线中,可以发扬民主监督这个优良传统和作风.这种监督对发扬社会主义民主,加强社会法制,防止党和政府脱离群众,克服官僚主义,及时发现和纠正工作中的缺点和错误,都大有好处.这种对党和政府工作的民主监督,虽然不同于我们党的代表大会和人民代表大会的那种权力性的监督,却是一种有重要意义,富有建设性的民主监督.
