Intellectual work is an important part of the party’s work. It relates to the rise and fall of the country, the success or failure of the party’s cause. In the war years, Comrade Mao Zedong pointed out: Without the participation of intellectuals, victory in revolution is impossible. At present, the world is in an era where economy and science and technology are fiercely competitive and economic development depends on scientific and technological progress. We need the efforts and struggles of the intellectuals to carry out the socialist construction. In August 1990, the CPC Central Committee issued a circular calling on the entire party to further strengthen and improve the work of intellectuals. He pointed out: “Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, the core of the party’s intellectual policy is respecting knowledge and talent.” Jiang Zemin Comrade Mao Zedong once again emphasized this issue in his “1 July” important speech in 1990. Practice has proved that a comprehensive understanding and true implementation of this “two respects” is the key to doing well the work of intellectuals.
