虫蛀木,指受到某些钻木昆虫的侵害而出现缺陷的木材。这些木材表面上散布着虫孔,这是钻木昆虫为取食、排卵、进出,在木材中所蛀的坑道。常见的钻木昆虫有留粉甲虫、木菌甲虫、家天牛等。留粉甲虫的幼虫一般在部分或完全干燥的木材中,主要是阔叶材的边材中蛀坑道,并留下细粉状蛀屑。家天牛的幼虫则喜欢在干的针叶材中蛀坑道。而对于生材(指新采伐的、未经干燥的木材),危害较大的是木菌甲虫,其小而为圆筒形的成虫沿横纹穿蛀坑
