This paper investigates the stylistic features of abstracts in Chinese scholars’theses.The texts studied come from the collection of CNKI and are including various fields.The study object is the abstracts which are selected from two main categories,namely,humanities and social sciences and natural sciences.Various applications of articles,tenses,voices and persons in frequency and collocations are examined.Furthermore,the structure and organization of the content of abstracts will be examined and compared.The analysis of vocabulary features including the usage of technical words and articles,the interpretation of syntactic characteristics involving the application in tense,voice,and length,as well as the introduction of the textual features,including the features of research objective,research methodology,research results and research discussion.The results reveal that the general structures of Chinese scholars’theses follow the basic requirements of academic writing.However,the features of theses in the fields of social sciences and natural sciences appear to present slight difference and variation.
