Deng Yiyi, a translator with me and a songwriter, spent nine years in Yanjing University, Fu Jen Catholic University and Shanghai National Academy of Music in Peking. Since 1940, I have been involved with more than 60 years. I am an old classmate and an old friend. Her recent reading of her poetry touched me deeply. All these poems were written after she was 70 years old. She was the symphony of her bitter and sweet life, her hard work and brilliant achievements in her later life.
