恩单2号玉米杂交种(简称N_2)自我所1973年育成以来,由于它具有较高的杂种优势,对山区客观存在的低温、高湿、寡照等不良气候有较强的适应力,苗期弹性大,耐荫蔽,适宜间作套种等优点,种植面积发展很快,全州1978年曾达180多万亩,约占玉米播种总面积的80%,对提高玉米产量发挥了巨大作用。1983年全州种植N_2的面积仍达127万亩;西南六省种植面积375万亩,是这些省份种植面积最大的杂交种。因此,进一步分析它的丰产性和适应性,采用综合措施延长其利用年限,是十分必要的。
