Men working in non-ferrous metal smelters exposed to lead were examined. According to urinary lead, δ-ALA and urinary coproporphyrin and zinc porphyrin measurements, these workers are over-exposed to lead. The frequency of SCE in peripheral blood lymphocytes of these workers was slightly higher than that in the control group, ie without any occupational hazards, but no correlation was found between SCE frequency and exposure to lead. Lymphocytes exposed to lead acetate in vitro showed only a slight increase in SCE frequency with a final concentration of 1.2μg / ml, but no increase in the lower concentration group. In vitro experiments with lead acetate concentrations of 0.56, 1.13 and 2.25μg / ml failed V79 cells induced higher SCE and micronuclei, the frequency of no significant difference with the negative control group. According to the experimental data and literature, the authors believe that lead may be a weak chelating agent rather than a mutagen.
