The basic national policy of implementing equality between men and women is the common responsibility of the entire society. Cheng Weigao, secretary of the Hebei Provincial CPC Committee, is now an important period for carrying forward the cause of China’s reform and opening up as well as for the cause of socialist modernization. The realization of the Ninth Five-Year Plan and the ambitious goal of the new century must involve the active participation of a broad masses of people, including women, who make up half of the population, and even require the development and progress of the women’s movement.
