纳撒尼尔·霍桑是美国19世纪影响最大的小说家,他的作品主要倾向于浪漫主义和心理描写,他的创作给后人留下了无数的精神财富。霍桑的父亲是一名船长,在霍桑很小的时候就已经离世。霍桑对父亲只有一个模糊的概念。1821年,在亲属的资助下,霍桑进入博多因学院进行学习,同学中有不少知名人物,包括诗人朗费罗与后来当选为总统的皮尔斯等,霍桑与这些人交往,学到了不少有用的东西,思想境界也不断提升。1825年,霍桑大学毕业,回到了塞勒姆镇,开始从事写作。他的主要作品有短篇小说集《重讲一遍的故事》《古屋青苔》和长篇小说《福古传奇》《红字》等。
Nathaniel Hawthorne is the most influential novelist in the United States in the 19th century. His works mainly focus on romanticism and psychological description. His writing has left countless spiritual fortunes to future generations. Hawthorne’s father was a captain who had died at the age of Hawthorne. Hawthorne only had a vague concept for his father. In 1821, with the aid of relatives, Hawthorne entered Baudouin College for study. There were quite a few famous people in the classmates, including poet Longfellow and Pierce who was elected president later.
