The International Lithosphere Program (DELP) aims to study the movement of the ocean plate associated with major earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and the deep earth formation of the earth through international cooperation. Japan’s work on this plan will begin in 1985. Located on the plate subduction zone, the Japanese archipelago has unparalleled and precious geographical conditions for studying various phenomena accompanying plate subduction. Therefore, Japan’s participation in this work is not only indispensable for the investigation and research work related to this project, but also greatly contributes to enhancing Japan’s academic position in solid earth science. Japan will conduct research on six topics including plate motion determination alone. It will also include unique research projects on the ground that simulate the ultra-high temperature and high pressure conditions in the Earth and the diamond formation process, and hopefully these projects will be developed and utilized Mineral resources
