北京图书馆新馆的外饰面计4万m~2,选用上釉半瓷质饰面砖。这种灰蓝色面砖每块尺寸为90×45×5mm,每18块贴在一张纸板上,每块纸板横向为274mm,竖向为295mm,呈横向排列,即横三竖六计18块。纸板砖的横缝为5mm,竖缝为2mm。温州产外饰面砖以当地粘土为主料,采用二次烧成工艺,尺寸准确,质地密实,吸水率低,具有良好的抗冻性能。这种装饰面砖在国内是首次使用,其做法不同于一般的面砖做法,比外墙马赛克施工难度更大。
