“首届社会语言学国际学术研讨会”(The First International Conference on Chinese Socio-linguistics)于2002年9月7-9日在北京语言大学召开。本次会议由北京语言大学、香港中文大学吴多泰中国语文研究中心联合主办,北京语言大学语言研究所承办。本次会议是在中国社会语言学学术活动停顿十年之后举行的,会议主题是中国社会语言学的理论建设与实证研究。参加会议的代表约100人,分别来自美国、荷兰、日本、越南等国家和中国大陆、香港、澳门、台湾地区,其中正式代表约70人,列席代表约30人,海外代表占三分之一。社会语言学创始人之一John J.Gumperz应邀参加了会议。
The First International Conference on Chinese Socio-linguistics was held at Beijing Language and Culture University from September 7 to September 9, 2002. The conference was co-sponsored by Beijing Language and Culture University and Wu Taotai Chinese Language Research Center of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The conference was hosted by the Institute of Linguistics of Beijing Language and Culture University. This conference was held ten years after the pause in academic activities of Chinese social linguistics. The theme of the conference was the theoretical construction and empirical study of Chinese social linguistics. About 100 delegates attended the conference. They were from the United States, the Netherlands, Japan, Vietnam and other countries, as well as from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Among them, about 70 were formally represented, attended by about 30 delegates and one-third by overseas delegates . John J. Gumperz, one of the founders of social linguistics, was invited to attend the conference.
