1 Introduction The theory of critical wedges (Davis et al., 1983) is now widespread in geological literature and has been used in some instances in nature (Brown et al., 1997) and tested using analogous models (Gutschet et al., 1996). The initial model of Davis et al. (1983) assumed a non-viscous model and subsequent work by Dahlen et al. (1984) developed this theory to include viscous wedges. ?
