In this paper, the author mainly discusses the ambiguity and subjectivity of the current theory and methods of indexing work, and attempts to make some discussions on the objective and effective indexing control. The article first analyzes the nature of the indexing process and points out that indexing is a process of thinking and decision making that extracts and transforms the subject concepts in documents or questions into effective concept identifiers. The indexing is always based on the concept identification system-vocabulary. The vocabulary is not general
