左崇新1940年生于陕西长安,1956年进入中国科学院考古研究所,长期从事文物修复,古人类头骨面貌复原,考古遗址、遗迹和文物造型复制及仿真人物蜡像、胶像艺术工艺等研究。是从关中沃土成长起来的享誉国内外的古人类头骨面相复原和造型艺术家,也是位自学成才的文物考古专家。左崇新的艺术生涯历经文物修复、雕塑造型、古人类面貌复原、蜡像与写真胶像四个阶段。四阶段是互为前提不断提升的升华过程。文物修复与雕塑左崇新自幼喜爱绘画、泥塑。进入考古行,加上对艺术的浓厚兴趣,很快便沉醉于各类古代文物艺术中,绘画、泥塑技艺提高很快,在年轻同事中脱颖而出,得到专家甚至大师言传身教。随后几年,他边从事文物修复、复制,边刻苦学习雕塑技法:
