The Vitrexen Award includes a medal and a $ 50,000 bonus. This award honors those who have had brilliant insights and achieved outstanding achievements in the scientific research on the relationship between the Earth, the evolutionary history of the Earth and the Earth and the Universe. The award was awarded by Columbia University and awarded by the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation. Funding for the foundation is a legacy donated by Witthelsen, the late Norwegian-American Airlines chairman. In recognition of M.K. Hubert’s outstanding contributions to geosciences using physical principles to solve significant geological problems, Columbia University awarded him the Wittgenson Award in December 1981. Among those who won this award are: 1960 - M. Ewing; 1962 - H. Jeffreys and Felix AV Meinsz; 1964 - Pentti Eelis Eskola and A. Holmes; 1966 - Jan Hendrik Oort; 1968 - E. Bullard and F.
