英国一家可供选择的供货商Mercury Communications在光纤干线系统中采用单模光纤耦合器,以大大提高传输容量,这是欧洲在光纤干线系统中一项最大的系统升级换代工程。为了在Mercury公司整个干线网的单向光纤上实现双向传输,正采用了近1000只耦合器。该公司的这条干线网含有2600多公里光缆。为了在该干线网的大部分路由上建立双向传输,全部采用宽带宽光纤,以得到额外的传输容量。输入信道和输出信道用1×2树形耦合器连接起来,从而使每根光纤的作用提高一倍。
Mercury Communications, a UK-based supplier, uses single-mode fiber couplers in fiber-optic backbone systems to dramatically increase transmission capacity, one of the largest systems upgrades in fiber-optic cable systems in Europe. Nearly 1,000 couplers are being used for bidirectional transmission over Mercury’s unidirectional fiber throughout the main line. The company’s trunk network contains over 2,600 kilometers of fiber optic cable. In order to establish a bidirectional transmission over most of the routes in the backbone network, all broadband fibers are used for additional transmission capacity. The input and output channels are connected by 1 × 2 tree-type couplers, doubling the effect of each fiber.
