文章以《中华人民共和国中医药法》即将问世为背景,对“中医”这一术语两个常见的英译版本Chinese medicine和traditional Chinese medicine进行评述,指出了翻译过程中存在的问题,即对英语单词traditional词义的曲解和对汉语“中医”概念的误读。通过对国内外权威英汉双解辞典以及新华社和WHO官网中“中医”相关词条的分析研究,认为“中医”的正确英译为traditional Chinese medicine,可简写为TCM。
In the context of the impending emergence of the “Chinese Medicine Law of the People’s Republic of China”, the article reviews two common English versions of the term “Chinese medicine”, namely traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, pointing out the problems in the process of translation, namely The Misinterpretation of the Word Mean of English Words and the Misunderstanding of the Chinese Concept of “Traditional Chinese Medicine”. Through the analysis of the authoritative English-Chinese bilingual dictionary at home and abroad and the relevant articles of Xinhua News Agency and the WHO website, it is believed that the correct English translation of “Chinese medicine” is traditional Chinese medicine, which can be abbreviated as TCM.
