Chang Yao’s poetry can be read as a spiritual biography. It not only reveals the relationship between a poet and the social idealism and its institutionalization, but also reveals the relationship between the poet and the reality of marketization. Changyao’s poem is the complex relationship between 20th century poetry and historical ethics. Few, like his Psalms, concentrate such complex historical experiences and collective memories in personal experience.
