/ On the morning of July 1, 1997, the PLA fleet was welcomed by the masses as it sailed through Sheung Shui in Hong Kong. On June 30, 1997, at 10: 10 am, Chairman Jiang Zemin of the Central Military Commission issued an order for the entry of People’s Liberation Army into Hong Kong. On the same day, the first 509 troops took 39 military vehicles and arrived at Hong Kong camps respectively through the Lok Ma Chau ports. 23:58:53, Commander Tan Shanyai of the Hong Kong Garrison said to the British commander: “On behalf of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army troops stationed in Hong Kong, I took over the barracks.
