This article addresses one of the aviation digital computer series, the functional features of the H-387, which was developed at Howell Aerospace Division. The article gives a brief description of the design rules related to the derivation of logical structure, the choice of instruction list, the format of the word and the structure of the interface. A detailed discussion of the functional requirements for the HLTTL (High-Level Transistor-Transistor Logic) integrated circuit family is also given, along with a study of synchronous timing. The H-387 is a carefully planned development that is not only a fast multipurpose computer, but also establishes a solid technical foundation for a diverse range of machines. The progress made in this machine is easily transferable to a variety of other machines, from mature multi-purpose processors to simple serial or serial / parallel processors. Package and circuit technology can be applied directly. The logical structure requires direct expansion of this technique.
