[Objective] To develop a rapid method for identifying and evaluating Lonicera hypoglauca Miq. and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz. species with IR spectrums. [Method] IR spectrums were applied to research Lonicera hypoglauca Miq., samples collected from 10 different producing areas and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz. samples collected from 7 different producing areas in Guangxi Province. Then, the baseline of infrared spectrums was smoothed and corrected using Omnic 7.0 software, and each samples similarity was calculated using their average spectrum as the standard spectrum. Based upon theirs infrared spectrums characteristic absorption peaks and the similarity, these samples were identified and evaluated. [Result] The characteristic absorption peaks of Lonicera hypoglauca Miq. and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz. from Guangxi Province were obtained. The similarity of Lonicera hypoglauca Miq. samples ranged from 0.976 7 to 0.993 4 with the RSD of 0.58% (n=10). Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz. samples similarity was in the range of 0.685 4 to 0.823 8 with the RSD of 6.92% (n=6). [Conclusion] This method is a simple, fast and stable one that can be used to identify and evaluate the species of Lonicera hypoglauca Miq. and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz.
