Animal and cross-sectional epidemiological studies have shown that air pollution is associated with diabetes, but limited prospective data results are mixed. The study aimed to examine the correlation between long-term exposure to traffic-related air pollution and the incidence of diabetes. The investigators followed up to 57053 participants in the Danish Diet, Cancer, Health (DCH) cohort in the Danish National Diabetes Registry (NDR) system during the baseline period (1993-1997) to June 2006. Assess the average level of NO2 in the cohort since 1971 and use Cox regression model to simulate the relationship between NO2 and the incidence of diabetes. The result was a mean follow-up of 51,818 participants over 9.7 years, with a total of 4040 (7.8%) cases of diabetes and 2877 (5.5%) patients diagnosed with diabetes. air
