Fe85Ga1 5 alloy samples were prepared by quenching with a quench method.The magnetostriction of the samples along the length and thickness of the tape was measured and found to be as high as -130 0ppm and +110 0ppm respectively. Stretching can be attributed to the shape anisotropy of the swaged samples and the large number of short-range strain orders generated within the alloy and their preferred orientation.
