Most imaging radars can only do two-dimensional imaging of the target: the azimuth X and the Z direction. Georgia Institute of Technology has recently developed a 95-GHz measurement radar with three-dimensional (X, Y, and Z) imaging capabilities. The radar is named HIRES-95, it is coherent and has dual polarization. Therefore, the radar can give the polarization scattering matrix to any one of the XYZ 3D resolution units of a given target. The two-dimensional angular data (X and Y) are obtained by focusing the antenna. The distance information (Z) is obtained by transmitting and processing a signal of 600 MHz bandwidth, and its waveform may be coded or transient.
