在光纤通信中,将今日的光纤作为传输线路用,以代替光的空间传播,建立光波导通路概念的研究,最多只有十年左右的历史,是一门极其年轻的技术.光纤电缆基本上与从前的铜电缆形态完全不同,它的传输理论、制造技术、接续技术、以及测量技术,与钢电缆积累起来的技术的通用性很小,有必要在各方面重新进行研究.
