Doris Lessing, the author of the novels on Violence, is considered the most important British writer after Virginia Woolf and won the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature. This semi-autobiographical novel lasted for 17 years. The five monuments blend seamlessly with the concern and consideration of many social issues such as World War, the Cold War between the East and the West, racial oppression, gender relations and women’s fate The series of novels not only describes Martha’s life, but also shows the self-pursuit and self-reflection of modern women in their predicament. Importantly, the series of novels portrays, from different perspectives, the process by which a woman psychologically searches for and ultimately obtains an inner self-help in a society full of racial prejudices and gender inequality.
