Any reader looking forward to Philippe Rose’s new novel (his 30th book) can not help but wonder whether Ross’s recent short novel is more like a parody of his earlier work, his earlier plot More complex, more tension. Can “mortal”, “anger” and “humiliation” now be considered as a brief consideration of the modern meanings? Before they were full of vigor and vitality, they irretrievably went to destruction. Or can these named or unnamed characters be seen as an expression of the author’s ideas that have not yet been explored, analyzed and fully described by Nathan Zuckerman and “Swedenman ” Lviv?
