话剧导演艺术的发展与创新,有赖于剧本创作的发展和创新。如果剧本说不出民心、党心要讲的话,没有反映生活的新角度,没有新的观念和立意,指望单靠导演艺术的努力,就能带来话剧艺术新的普及和繁荣,那将是十分困难的。然而,作为二度创作的导演艺术,又确能对话剧的发展起促进的作用,不这样看,导演艺术就放弃了自己在发展整个演剧艺术中应负的责任。我以为,剧协和《人民戏剧》编辑部正是在这种清醒的认识下召开这次导演艺术座谈会的。
The development and innovation of drama directors’ art depends on the development and innovation of script writing. If the script can not speak of the people, the party and the heart want to talk about it. There is no new angle of life and no new ideas and conceptions. It is hoped that with the hard work of director art alone, new popularity and prosperity of drama will be brought. Very difficult. However, as a second-time director’s art, it can indeed promote the development of the drama. Otherwise, the director’s art gives up its responsibility in developing the entire art of theater. I think it is in this clear understanding that the editorial department of the Drama Association and “People’s Theater” convened the director’s art symposium.
