国际戏剧协会(International Theater Institute)是一个得到联合国教育、科学与文化组织资助的国际戏剧组织。第二次世界大战结束后不久,联合国教科文组织于1946年提出建立一个有利于教科文组织开展活动和发展戏剧事业的国际戏剧协会的备忘录,同年在教科文组织的首届大会上通过。1947年教科文组织在巴黎召开有15个国家的25位戏剧专家参加的会议,讨论有关国际戏剧协会的计划,还提出了章程。在这次会议的基础上,1948年6月国际戏剧协会在捷克斯洛伐克首都布拉格正式成立,参加首届大会的有18个国家,选举了英国著名剧作家J·B·普里斯特利(J·B·Priestley,1894~1984)担任首届主席。在这届成立大会上,普里斯特利对国际戏剧协会的宗旨是这样表述的:“戏剧在促进国际间的彼此了解方面有着特殊重要的意义。”鉴于联合国教育、科学与文化组织的总部设在
The International Theater Institute is an international theater organization funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Shortly after the end of World War II, UNESCO proposed in 1946 a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of an international theater association in favor of UNESCO’s activities and the development of the theater business, to be adopted at the first General Conference of UNESCO in the same year. In 1947, UNESCO convened a meeting of 25 theater experts in 15 countries in Paris to discuss plans for the International Theater Association and to create a charter. On the basis of this meeting, in June 1948, the International Theater Association was formally established in Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia. 18 participating countries attended the first conference and elected J.
