参考手中收集到的意大利手抄本,司汤达于1837到1839年两年间对收集到的资料进行融合,并时断时续地创作了较少的中短篇文章,也就成就了他早期的作品《意大利遗事》,小说选用的时间背景是16世纪和18世纪,由此可以看出作品存在巨大的时间差,然而不同时代的人物性质和内心活动却出奇的类似,都表现出突破传统价值观的限制,遵循人性自然发展的顺序,义无反顾的激烈动作以及发生在社会道德标准
In reference to the collected Italian manuscripts, Stendhal merged the collected information between 1837 and 1839, and wrote short and medium-length articles intermittently, thus completing his earlier works “Italy’s legacy”, the time background chosen for the novel is from the 16th and the 18th centuries.
