This essay starts from the three principles of Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics, that is understanding, history, horizons fusion and effect history, and re-understanding and positioning of translation. The implications of Gadamer’s thought on translation studies lie in: (1) historical understanding of understanding constitutes a prejudice of understanding, and then makes different choices in the process of translation, including misreading and mistranslation; (2) translation should not be a It should be a process in which the translator can understand and interpret the source language subjectively and actively through his own vision and reach the realm of dialogue, communication and integration with the original author. (3) The historical principle of effect affirms the necessity of translators of different ages for the same text and encourages the translator to tirelessly pursue the highest level of translation.
