Grolman (1972) introduced the Noncontact Tonometer (NCT). It is the general impact of the corneal airflow, instead of the mechanical contact with the eye tissue. The NCT consists of three systems, namely (1) Alignment System; (2) Photo Voltage Level Monitoring System and (3) Airflow System. The alignment system is an intrinsic target for patient gaze and has lens groups that allow patients with a high degree of refractive errors to be corrected for clear target imaging. Poor vision can not be fixed, the eye can be used to watch an external source of light. The examiner observes the target reflected in the cornea of the patient and adjusts the position of the instrument so that it overlaps the fixed ring. The measurement of intraocular pressure is performed only after the corneal axial, vertical and lateral positions are corrected.
