Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved cellular degradation process,in which intracellular components are digested by the lysosomal pathway.While this process maintains cellular homeostasis by constitutively recycling cytoplasmic organelles and proteins,it can also be stimulated by environmental stress conditions,such as starvation,oxidative stress,and accumulation of misfolded proteins.
