The authors use PCR in the diagnosis and early diagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in clinical and laboratory animals and compare the sensitivity and specificity with previous PCP diagnostic methods. Pneumocystis carinii (PC) was taken from infected rats and mice. Sputum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from 44 patients with respiratory diseases, including PCP, were used as test materials. The subjects were: 10 cases of diagnosed PCP, 8 cases of suspected PCP, and 26 cases of other pulmonary diseases (15 cases of sputum samples, 7 cases of BALF
