Tony Morrison is a leader in American modern literature. She was the first African-American to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Her fifth novel, “Beloved,” won the worldwide attention just after its release. In 1978, Morrison won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature for his Beloved. Morrison’s novel is hailed as a milestone in the history of black Americans. Critics analyze the novel differently from all aspects, such as the controversial theme of the novel, rich language, and more. In the novel, Morrison uses a variety of narrative methods to tell readers a profound story. In order for her child not to repeat her fate as a slave, a nigger mother killed her child. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the use of meta-narrative strategies in Beloved. The article mainly introduces the background and experience of author Tony Morrison as well as the main contents and main roles of “Beloved”, and analyzes the concrete application of the narrative strategy in the novel. Finally, it introduces the literary significance of these narrative strategies.
