川端康成所著的《雪国》一书,以优美哀伤的语调刻画了在一个与世隔绝的雪国山村中,主人公岛村与驹子、叶子之间的情感纠葛。本书以岛村与驹子的交往为主线,以叶子在大火中的死亡告终,值得关注的是,“徒劳”一词在本书中多次出现。笔者认为,“徒劳”是贯穿全书的一条重要线索。在现实层面上它代表着生活中的“求而不得”的悲哀:而在内心层面上,则蕴含着洁净纯真之美;在生与死的层面上,“徒劳”意味着人生的虚空无望,而正是这种虚空,使得生与死相连,死让徒劳下的纯净之美得到永生。
