In the upsurge of the Chinese left-wing literary trends in the early 1930s, the Front of Marxist Literary and Art Theory represented by Qu Qiubai and its antithesis started a fierce debate on the issue of “freedom” of literary and artistes and writers and artists. This controversy has not only played a significant role in promoting the dissemination of Marxist theory of literature and art in China but also in the practice of the emerging proletarian mass art movement. The ideological construction of this controversy, especially the evolution of the connotation of the concept of “freedom” in literature and art and the logical and logical logic of its core categories, has become very necessary.
