Most of the articles dealing with the teaching of literature as a foreign language or a second foreign language focus on how teachers use their literature to teach language courses. Instead, the following article describes the investigation of students’ attitudes toward English literature. The article proposes a strategic approach to teaching literature by combining student attitudes and longstanding teachers’ choices in teaching objectives and traditional methods. Investigations This survey is conducted for Chinese students in Hong Kong. Their first language is Cantonese. They belong to adults, engaged in amateur studies in order to obtain a degree, learning English and literature.
